The Gibson Hotel: Bespoke Abstract Artwork by Spires Art
Bespoke Abstract Artwork for One of Dublin’s Most Iconic Stays
Located beside Dublin’s 3Arena, The Gibson Hotel is known for its contemporary interiors, music-inspired energy and distinctive urban character. For this project, the interior design team approached Spires Art with a clear brief: to create a range of abstract artwork that felt both high-energy and sophisticated, while complementing the hotel’s modern bedroom and ensuite schemes.
The result was a fully bespoke collection designed to bring rhythm, texture and visual impact into the guest experience. Across the rooms, the artwork acts as more than a decorative finish. It anchors the space, adds contrast to the soft neutral interiors and introduces a refined artistic edge that feels in keeping with The Gibson’s bold, creative identity.

The Design Brief
The brief called for artwork that would sit confidently within the hotel’s contemporary interiors without overpowering them. The bedrooms feature a calm and considered palette, with warm timber flooring, soft taupe curtains, crisp white bedding and vibrant green and pink accents.
Our role was to create artwork that could connect with this scheme while giving each room a stronger visual identity. The artwork needed to feel modern, expressive and energetic, but still refined enough for a premium hotel environment.
Rather than creating literal music-themed artwork, the collection takes a more abstract approach. Large gestural movements, layered textures and controlled metallic details give the pieces a sense of movement and atmosphere, subtly reflecting the rhythm and energy associated with the hotel’s location and personality.

The Artwork Concept
The core of the collection is built around a palette of organic neutrals, deep black markings and carefully applied gold detailing. Each piece features a textured beige background, giving the artwork a soft, tactile foundation that works naturally with the surrounding interiors.
Across this quieter base, we introduced large, expressive black strokes. These gestures cut through the composition with confidence, creating visual tension and movement. The lines feel spontaneous and energetic, but the overall arrangement remains balanced, allowing the artwork to sit comfortably within the room.
To elevate the pieces further, subtle gold detailing was added throughout the collection. These metallic accents catch the light at different points of the day, bringing warmth and depth without feeling overly decorative. The effect is understated luxury: bold enough to be noticed, refined enough to remain timeless.
Each artwork was then finished in a slim black frame, creating a sharp modern silhouette that complements the hotel’s contemporary architecture and furniture detailing.

A Cohesive Collection Across the Bedrooms
A key part of the project was ensuring consistency across the hotel while still allowing different room types to feel considered. The artwork collection was therefore curated across multiple bedroom categories, with variations in scale, format and finish depending on the room.
In the standard and twin rooms, high-quality printed versions of the artwork were used to maintain a cohesive design language throughout the property. These pieces bring the same bold visual rhythm into the rooms while offering a practical and consistent solution across larger quantities.
For the King, Executive and Suite rooms, the artwork was developed further through bespoke hand-embellished finishes. In these premium spaces, our artists worked directly onto the canvas, adding physical texture, depth and gold leaf detailing. This gave each piece its own subtle individuality, ensuring that no two rooms feel exactly the same.
This approach allowed the hotel to maintain a strong, recognisable artwork story while giving the higher room tiers an elevated and more tactile finish.

Designed to Work With the Interior
The success of the collection lies in how naturally it works with the surrounding interior scheme. The beige grounds connect with the curtains, furniture and warm timber flooring, while the black gestures bring definition and contrast to the walls.
The green accents in the bedding and cushions are given more energy by the artwork’s movement, while the gold detailing adds warmth under the room lighting. In some rooms, the artwork is positioned above the bed to create a strong focal point. In others, grouped pieces create a more dynamic composition, adding movement across the wall without disrupting the calmness of the space.
The artwork also responds well to the natural light within the rooms. During the day, the textured surfaces and metallic details catch subtle shifts in brightness. In the evening, the warm bedside and floor lamps bring out the depth of the black marks and the richness of the gold accents.

Production and Finish
As with all Spires Art projects, the collection was produced with close attention to scale, finish and consistency. The printed pieces were created to a high-quality standard, ensuring sharp detail, strong tonal depth and reliable colour consistency across the wider room package.
For the hand-embellished pieces, our artists added physical texture and metallic detailing directly to the surface. This introduced a more crafted, one-of-one quality into the premium rooms, while still keeping the collection aligned with the wider design concept.
The slim black frames were selected to give the artwork a clean architectural finish. They define each piece clearly against the pale walls, while keeping the overall look contemporary and understated.

The Final Result
The finished collection gives The Gibson Hotel’s bedrooms and ensuites a stronger sense of identity, rhythm and refinement. The artwork introduces energy without visual noise, luxury without excess, and individuality without losing cohesion across the property.
By combining high-quality printed artwork with bespoke hand-embellished pieces for the premium rooms, Spires Art helped create a layered artwork package that was practical, scalable and design-led.
The project demonstrates how abstract artwork can do more than fill a wall. When properly considered, it can connect colour, texture, atmosphere and brand identity into one coherent guest experience.
